HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – A driver fled after crashing a Range Rover into the Hollywood Branch Library early Saturday morning, authorities said.
The crash set off a fire that left the SUV mangled and caused significant damage to the building located at 2600 Hollywood Blvd.
Authorities said the SUV slammed into the structure overnight and burst into flames, charring part of the exterior and shattering windows.
Emergency response crews remained on scene throughout the morning, boarding up windows and assessing water damage inside the library.
Hollywood Fire Rescue and public works officials inspected the damage while the library remained closed.
Police have not yet identified a driver but confirmed that an investigation into what led up to the crash is underway.
