Robert Kesten, the museum’s chief executive officer, said the nonprofit aims to promote understanding of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities.

Kesten said he and the museum’s supporters are considering options to make sure the mission keeps going.

“It’s so important to have a presence in a place that doesn’t want you. You have to go where the fight is,” Kesten said.

The museum is named after the 1969 Stonewall riots in New York City, which marked the beginning of the LGBTQ rights movement.

Kesten said the organization is committed to raising the funds needed to keep the doors open.

The theme of the third annual gala is “Standing on the Shoulders of Heroes” and it will be held at 6 p.m., on March 1, at 2345 Wilton Drive, in Wilton Manors.
