Dolphins tackle cancer in 15th annual fundraiser

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The NFL and Miami Dolphins teamed up for one of South Florida’s largest cancer research fundraisers during the 15th annual Dolphins Cancer Challenge at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday.

Doctors, athletes, and cancer survivors flooded the stadium for the event, which featured a variety of activities, including a 5K run and a cycling race spanning up to 10 miles.

Event organizers said the Dolphins have raised more than $75 million for cancer research to date, making it one of the most successful charity events in the region.

“Cancer is one of those things that touches everybody,” said Dolphins Cancer Challenge Board Chair Elizabeth Jenkins. “Whether it’s yourself or a loved one, it’s a way to give back and that’s really, really important.”

The challenge also saw participation from cancer survivor/ Local 10′s very own Janine Stanwood as well as Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, head coach Mike McDaniel and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
