According to a police arrest report, Heath Coutts was driving a black 2005 Ford F-150 pickup truck on Dec. 16 when he lost control and struck a pedestrian on the sidewalk.

According to the arrest report, Officer Chelsea Perez found a bottle of alcohol near the truck’s driver’s seat, and Officer Kahlyl Antoine smelled his alcohol breath while performing CPR.

Antoine reported Coutts was responsive after Margate Fire Rescue personnel administered Narcan, a medicine used to treat a narcotic overdose in an emergency.

Fire rescue personnel flew the pedestrian to Broward Health North. Antoine reported the victim suffered “rib fractures, spinal compression fractures, distended abdomen,” and “multiple abrasions, lacerations, and contusions.”

According to the arrest report, a toxicology report showed Coutts was driving at over two times the legal limit. Florida’s legal alcohol limit is 0.08 grams per 100 milliliters of blood, and he tested positive for .185 grams.

Court records show prosecutors filed the case on Feb. 14. Inmate records show correctional deputies booked Coutts on Monday at the main jail in Fort Lauderdale.

Coutts faced two counts of DUI with serious bodily injury, a third-degree felony; and one count of driving with a suspended license, a second-degree misdemeanor.
