According to Fort Lauderdale police spokeswoman Casey Liening, Isaiah Frazier was arrested by FLPD’s Fugitive Unit Monday on charges of first-degree murder and first-degree attempted murder.
Authorities said Tanaejah Atterbury was struck by gunfire on Feb. 17 during a chaotic scene on Northwest Eighth Avenue near 16th Street, where witnesses said Tanaejah was among a group of kids who were standing near a fight involving two teenage girls.
An arrest report states that Tanaejah, a ninth grader, was shot in the back, with the bullet exiting out her right shoulder. She was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center, where she later died, according to investigators.
Witnesses say Tanaejah was not involved in the fight that led to the shooting.
“It was girls fighting -- a fight that had nothing to do with her,” a witness said. “She was just standing out there.”
Tanaejah’s family says she loved dancing and making videos with her siblings.
Her grandmother, Angeletta Thomas-Keel, told Local 10 News Tuesday that she was grateful that detectives had made an arrest.
“It took our soul from us. She was just beginning to be a teenager,” Thomas-Keel said.
Thomas-Keel said her granddaughter was “at the wrong place at the wrong time.”
“Justice will be done,” Thomas-Keel said.
