OAKLAND PARK, Fla. – Two Broward Sheriff’s Office sergeants with the Oakland Park District have been placed on administrative leave with pay, the agency confirmed Friday to Local 10 News.
They have been identified as Sgt. Matt Patten and Sgt. Victor Carrasquillo.
According to BSO spokeswoman Veda Coleman-Wright, Internal Affairs is looking into their handling of a case due to a “breach of confidence.”
No other details were immediately released.
In a separate matter, eight BSO deputies were suspended in connection with a triple murder in Tamarac that occurred Feb. 16, and a ninth deputy was demoted.
Sheriff Gregory Tony said a preliminary probe revealed a “shortcoming of performance” by BSO deputies, including a missed opportunity to arrest suspect Nathan Gingles before he committed the triple murder, killing his estranged wife, Mary Gingles, 43, her father, David Ponzer, 64, and their neighbor, Andrew Ferrin, 36.
According to Coleman-Wright, since the Tamarac killings, the sheriff has proactively requested all districts review cases and allegations of deputy inactions before and after that tragedy.
Sources told Local 10 News that roughly 6,000 cases are being examined for allegedly never being investigated or mishandled.
