Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Northridge shopping plaza on East Commercial Boulevard last month.

They spoke with a man, who said he was driving in the plaza parking lot when he saw, “the defendant in a white four-door pickup truck driving erratically as he ran over the curb almost crashing into his vehicle.”

The victim said he then approached the truck and asked the driver what his problem was.

He said the driver, identified as James Schambeck, 56, became hostile towards him and slapped him with an open hand two times.

The victim then said that he ended up, “getting the best of the defendant”.

He said that Schambeck ran off, and “blurted out that I have something for you” while running to his truck.

The victim said Schambeck then exited the truck with a black firearm and pointed it at him.

The victim ran for cover and called police.

He then saw Schambeck go into a nearby bank and used that opportunity to write down Schambeck’s license plate number.

When deputies responded, they saw a truck matching the victim’s description and pulled it over.

They reported that the “defendant was then detained and a black Smith & Wesson 9mm fully loaded, with 7 bullets in the magazine was recovered from the glove box.”

After questioning, Schambeck was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, and battery.

Schambeck was first taken to the hospital after complaining about a shoulder injury, before he was booked into the Broward County jail

He has since bonded out of jail.
