FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A man accused of going on a Feb. 16 killing spree in Tamarac appeared in Broward County court on Friday.
Nathan Gingles, 43, of Lauderhill, pleaded not guilty to three counts of first-degree murder and several other charges.
His defense entered the plea on his behalf.
Deputies said the tragedy unfolded when Gingles killed his father-in-law, David Ponzer, 64, then chased down his 34-year-old estranged wife, Mary Gingles, to the home of her neighbor, Andrew Ferrin, 36, where she had sought refuge. They said he then shot and killed both his wife and Ferrin.
Authorities said all three killings took place in front of his 4-year-old daughter, Seraphine.
Court records show that Nathan Gingles was abusive to his wife, leading Mary Gingles to file multiple restraining orders.
Broward County Sheriff Gregory Tony has since suspended eight deputies, demoted another multiple ranks, and launched an investigation, saying the deputies failed to act on warning signs leading up to the murders.
Nathan Gingles is expected back in court on May 15.
