MIAMI – Police officers expect about a million people to take over 15 blocks and surround seven stages during The Calle Ocho Music Festival on Sunday in Miami’s Little Havana.

This year’s King of the Carnaval is José “Jay Wheeler” López, a Puerto Rican singer and songwriter, is the last performance of the night on the stage at 22nd Avenue.
Melina Almodóvar, El Micha, and Osmani Garcia will perform on the same stage before him. There will be dozens of DJs and a “Musical Activation and VIP area” at 15 Avenue.
Miami has been celebrating every year for nearly half a century. The late Celia Cruz was the Queen of the Carnaval in 1984 and Gloria Estefan in 1988. The list of Kings includes Pittbull in 2010, Daddy Yankee in 2014, and Fonseca in 2019.
There are hundreds of street vendors selling everything from arepas and pinchos to Cuban pastries and coladas. The neighborhood’s Kiwanis Club started the street party 47 years ago as a fundraiser for the nonprofit organization’s charity works.
