MIAMI – The Miami-Dade County Youth Fair is set to kick off on Thursday in Miami.
That’s right, it’s time for funnel cakes and Ferris wheels, but before all of that can happen, final safety inspections must be completed.
“They’re finishing their final inspections on all of our equipment,” said Scooter Korek with North American Midway Entertainment. “They’re going to put a sticker on it.”
The rides are provided by North American Midway Entertainment and the inspectors are from the Florida Department of Agriculture, and they’ve been on the grounds since Monday.
“That’s another set of eyes that take a look at our equipment before we set it up,” said Korek.
Last year, a ride malfunction was captured on cellphone video at the fair.
The video shows the moment the ride had a mechanical issue and poles came unscrewed.
No one was injured and fair leaders said safety features of the ride kicked in to ensure that, and parents should know the rides are safe.
“The number one thing at the fair is safety,” said Youth Fair President Eddie Cora. “The ride inspectors come out and they inspect every inch of every ride.”
This year there’s a new ride called Downdraft.
“I’m going to enjoy…I want to see their faces when they come off,” said Cora.
For those less enthusiastic about rides, the fair also has lots of games, shows, new exhibits and 28 new food features that just scream Miami-Dade County.
“We have guava candy apples, mango crack candy apples, and how much more Miami can you get then a café colada funnel cake,” said Cora.
Maybe wait to try that funnel cake until after you get your fix of rides.
