It happened Saturday around 6:30 p.m. in the area of Northwest Seventh Street and 47th Avenue.

9 a.m. report:

Ambulances and other Miami police officers rushed to the scene as dozens watched two women who were walking in the area get injured as a result of the car accident.

According to an officer, the driver of a Toyota sedan was making a turn when it collided with the officer’s cruiser that was driving in the opposite direction. It’s unclear which vehicle struck the women.

Witnesses who saw it all happen said the officer quickly got out of the cruiser and started performing CPR on one of the badly injured women.

“As with any scene involving someone who requires medical attention, our job as first responders is to immediately provide first aid or any kind of lifesaving measures to ensure that we assist the person in need,” said Miami police Officer Kiara Delva. “Fire rescue immediately responded here on scene and we were able to transport them and to continue any type of medical assistance that is required.”

Joshua Reyes, who works across the street, saw the aftermath of what happened.

“I walked there myself,” he said. “I saw her body on the floor -- they were trying to resuscitate her.”

The cars involved in the crash were left with extensive damage and the streets were closed for hours for officers to fully investigate this crash and later to clean the debris left behind.

Many hours into the investigation and early Sunday morning, both cars were finally towed away.

After he helped the victims, the officer who was involved in the crash was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

The driver of the Toyota was not injured.

On Sunday, flowers were left by loved ones at the crash site.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

“This is frequently dangerous,” Reyes said. “Everyone knows to look both ways several times before crossing.”
