FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A Broward County judge postponed the arraignment of Tyler Tyrone Hollins on Monday, delaying proceedings for the man accused of killing 3-year-old Rylo Yancy in a Fort Lauderdale drive-by shooting last year.
Hollins, 20, who faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of Rylo, appeared in court in handcuffs.
A public defender assigned to his case said so far there is no probable cause because she had not yet seen a witness list.
“Here’s what we are going to do, I’ll give you till next week,” the judge said, pushing the arraignment to March 26.
The court entered a not guilty plea on Hollins’ behalf.
According to investigators, Rylo was killed by a stray bullet during a drive-by shooting at a birthday party at Riverland Park on July 21, 2024.
Authorities say Hollins was one of several gunmen involved in a dispute that did not involve the child’s family.
“I need an ambulance at Riverland Park,” a caller told dispatchers on the day of the shooting.
A witness described the horrifying moment Rylo was hit.
“He was going down a slide and a gunshot shot his eye and my mom had him in her arms,” the witness said.
For Rylo’s family, Hollins’ arrest marks a step toward justice.
“The last seven and a half months, time has stood still for us while the world kept moving,” said Damia Gilner, Rylo’s cousin.
Authorities have also arrested a second suspect, 23-year-old Thaddeus Squire III, charging him as an accessory after the fact. Detectives say he was the getaway driver in the vehicle from which Hollins fired.
“They took his life. He was only 3 years old and they shattered our whole entire family,” said Todera Scott, another cousin of Rylo.
Jimmere Prescott, a family friend, said they are prepared for justice to run its course.
“It’s not over. We already knew it was going to be justice, so we’re just sitting back waiting for everything to fall together,” Prescott told Local 10 News last week.
Fort Lauderdale detectives say additional arrests could be coming.
Hollins is set to return to court for his arraignment next week.
