FHP identified the suspect as 32-year-old Alejandro Garcia Estrada. They said he was arrested Sunday after a high-speed chase that ended in a violent crash.

According to an arrest report, a trooper was patrolling the westbound lanes of the Palmetto Expressway near Northwest 67th Avenue when he spotted a black Ford Mustang with white racing stripes driving recklessly. The trooper began following the car and activated his emergency lights and sirens, attempting to initiate a traffic stop.

However, instead of pulling over, they said Garcia Estrada accelerated and began weaving through lanes, nearly causing multiple crashes.

Authorities said Garcia Estrada continued fleeing at dangerously high speeds, reaching over 120 mph while heading southbound on the expressway.

Investigators said the pursuit continued until Garcia Estrada attempted to exit at Northwest 122nd Street.

As Garcia Estrada approached the intersection of the Palmetto Expressway and Northwest 122nd Street, troopers said he ran a red light and slammed into a white vehicle. The force of the impact caused Garcia Estrada’s Mustang to flip over, landing on its roof, according to the report.

Despite the severity of the crash, troopers said Garcia Estrada was still inside the car when they arrived.

One trooper, with the help of an off-duty Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputy, said he managed to pull Garcia Estrada from the wreckage.

Resisting Arrest and Alleged Bribery Attempt

Once out of the car, troopers say Garcia Estrada allegedly became combative, resisting both the trooper and the off-duty officer.

Troopers said multiple attempts were made to subdue him before a Taser was used to gain control of the situation.

After being taken into custody, Garcia Estrada was placed inside an FHP patrol vehicle.

While in the back seat, authorities said he attempted to bribe the trooper, offering money in exchange for his release.

Authorities have not disclosed the condition of the driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.

Jail records show Garcia Estrada is facing two counts of resisting an officer with violence to his person and one count each of fleeing or eluding police officers in a marked vehicle at a high rate of speed, bribing an officer and reckless driving while causing damage to property or a person.

As of Friday, he is being held on a $12,500 bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
