MIAMI – Miami police are searching for a driver following a deadly hit-and-run crash that left one person dead and sent four others to the hospital.
It happened around 9 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Northwest 17th Avenue and 54th Street in the Liberty City neighborhood.
Noon report:
The impact of the collision caused one of the two cars involved to flip onto its side.
Several pedestrians in the area were injured as well, with the crash leveling a bus stop.
In surveillance footage, a white pick-up can be seen in the outer lane of traffic and another white sedan seen right beside that vehicle in the next lane over.
By the time first responders arrived, the other driver involved had already fled the scene.
Firefighters shared photos of some of the rescue efforts.
They say five people in total were taken to the hospital, and one of them was ejected from the car.
Another was trapped inside and had to be cut out by first responders.
Of the five people injured, one later died and a second person remains in extremely critical condition.
The three others who were transported are said to be stable.
Monday night, a small memorial of stuffed animals was growing to honor the woman who was killed.
No other vehicles stopped at the scene, according to police, and traffic homicide detectives are now working to identify the other driver involved and find their car.
Anyone with information is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
