Man accused of murder during dispute over lighter in Pompano Beach

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A 52-year-old man faced a murder charge Tuesday in Broward County for fatally stabbing a 41-year-old man during a dispute over a lighter, according to deputies.

Hermes Rodriguez was at the county’s main jail in Fort Lauderdale after he appeared in court and a judge denied him bond on Monday.

Broward County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested Rodriguez on Sunday accusing him of stabbing Charles Scott at 437 SW Second Court.

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue personnel took Scott from the one-story apartment building on Sunday morning to Broward Health North where he later died.
