Fire erupted after a tractor trailer tipped over on the Florida Turnpike, causing traffic in both directions to be greatly impacted.

It happened in Tamarac in the southbound lanes of the Turnpike near the Commercial Boulevard exit.

According to authorities, a dump truck trailer carrying scrap metal was traveling in the northbound lanes when the driver lost control and rolled over the median onto the southbound lanes, spilling its load and catching fire.

A second vehicle was involved in the crash, according to Tamarac Fire Rescue.

Traffic cameras show that traffic had been stopped both ways as crews worked to extinguish the flames. One northbound lane has since been opened.

Both the driver of the tractor trailer and the second vehicle were not injured, officials said.

This is a breaking news story that will be updated as new information is made available.
