MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Dozens of people gathered at the Krome Detention Center to protest the conditions there on Saturday.
This protest comes amid a wave of public concern and viral videos from inside the southwest Miami-Dade facility, drawing attention to worsening conditions.
Given the Trump administration’s crackdown on immigration, both Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Department of Homeland Security have ramped up deportation efforts, sending more detainees than normal to the Krome North Service Processing Center.
According to ex-detainees and immigration attorneys, the center is overcrowded, with at least two people having died in the facility since late January.
