MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A special luncheon was held in Miami Gardens featuring a panel discussion that highlights women breaking barriers in non-traditional fields.
Elizabeth Coppolecchia was one of the four dynamic women on stage at the event.
“I will say having a group of girlfriends is critical,” she said. “I’m glad you asked that question. A lot of us are in male dominated fields.”
Tashani Lewis is an electrician and spoke about her journey in a male dominated field.
“Being the only female within my workforce, in the office, I overcome daily,” she said. “So I’ve got to build that posture, I’ve got to build that confidence.”
The panel discussion was moderated by Local 10 News’ Alex Finnie.
Carol Von Kaul, who is a patent attorney, talked about how she handles her workplace dynamic.
“Another label too, as a female attorney, is that we are either aggressive or assertive, and so the way in which I handle that is I let me shine through,” she said.
The hour long conversation in Miami Gardens was spearheaded by Councilwoman Linda Julien.
“We see tons of things happening with women being marginalized or minorities being marginalized and I really just wanted to create a space to uplift women this Women’s History Month,” said Julien.
The month of March is reserved for celebrating the contributions women have made to society. What began as National Women’s History Week in the early 80′s has grown into becoming what is now known as Women’s History Month.
