DAVIE, Fla. – A 45-year-old custodian at Indian Ridge Middle School in Davie was arrested Tuesday on several charges related to child pornography, jail records confirmed Wednesday.
Records show Jaime Rivas, of Margate, is facing seven counts of possession of depiction of child sexual conduct and one separate count of possessing computer pornography of a minor.
The school is located at 1355 S. Nob Hill Road in Davie.
Agents with the South Florida Internet Crimes against Children Task Force said they received a report from Google in June 2024 that Rivas, who was operating a business account, “violated terms of use by uploading images of child pornography.”
Investigators said after they were granted a search warrant for Rivas’ account, they located 21 “unique files” which met the criteria for child pornography.
They said those files contained over 100 images and or videos of “male and female children between the ages of 5-15 years old engaging in sexual acts with other children and adults.”
An arrest affidavit obtained by Local 10 News states that after being read his Miranda rights, Rivas made a statement that was redacted in the publicly-released report.
Indian Ridge Middle School Principal Ian Murray released a statement to parents Wednesday, informing them of the arrest:
“Good afternoon Jaguar families. This is Principal Murray calling to make you aware that an employee who works as a custodian at our school has been arrested by law enforcement. I want you to know the individual has been reassigned by the School District away from our school and students pending the outcome of the matter. Providing our students with high-quality learning opportunities in a safe, secure environment is our priority. We appreciate your continuing support and partnership in your child’s education. Feel free to contact my office if you have questions or concerns.”
Broward Circuit Judge Corey B. Friedman ruled Wednesday that if Rivas posts bond, he will be required to wear a Level 2 GPS monitor and have no contact with minors.
As of Wednesday, he is being held on a $82,500 bond at the Broward Main Jail.
