Dania Beach man accused of firing shots near 8 deputies during domestic incident with wife

DANIA BEACH, Fla. – A man is accused of endangering eight Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies during a SWAT standoff Tuesday in Dania Beach after a domestic violence call led to an hours-long confrontation, authorities said.

According to BSO, deputies responded to a home where a woman reported that her husband, identified by authorities as 55-year-old Martin Guenther Tackett, had threatened her with a gun while both were intoxicated.

A woman who identified herself as Tackett’s wife, however, told Local 10 News in a phone call that she was not intoxicated at the time.

5 p.m. report:

When deputies arrived, they said Tackett pointed a gun at the woman and told her, “Tell them to come and get me.”

The woman was escorted to safety, but she told deputies that her bedridden mother, who was in hospice care, remained inside the home, according to an arrest report.

Authorities said Tackett refused to surrender despite multiple negotiation attempts.

Hours into the standoff, they said SWAT team members forced entry using an armored vehicle after hearing two to three gunshots from inside. A bomb squad robot was also deployed.

Deputies said Tackett was seen armed with both a handgun and a rifle before ultimately surrendering.

He was taken into custody and faces eight counts of premeditated attempted homicide of a law enforcement officer and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to jail records.

As of Wednesday, Tackett was being held without bond at the Broward Main Jail.

If Tackett is released from jail, he will be ordered to stay away from the residence and be placed on a GPS monitor.
