FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Detectives were investigating the third crime at the same home near the Lauderdale Memorial Park in Fort Lauderdale’s Croissant Park neighborhood.

According to Detective Ali Adamson, a spokeswoman for the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, two of the cases at the home near the 500 block of Southeast 19th Street have been closed.

“The suspects involved in the prior two incidents have been ruled out as suspects,” Adamson wrote Wednesday.

The open case is a home invasion sexual battery investigation that started after police officers found a victim “restrained and suffering from visible injuries” at about 2 p.m., on Aug. 28.

“The victim had been inside the home cleaning and listening to music,” Adamson wrote.

A man carrying zip ties broke into the home, between Fourth and Sixth Avenue, armed with a knife, and grabbed the victim from behind, according to police.

“The suspect then threw the victim to the ground,” Adamson wrote.

The victim was so badly injured that Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue personnel deemed the case a trauma alert and rushed to the Broward Health Medical Center.

“The suspect is described as a Black male, who, at the time of the crime, was wearing a blue shirt and brown shorts, had short hair, and possibly facial hair as well,” Adamson wrote.

Sgt. Hector Martinez, the detective in the case, and the victim need help from the public to identify the suspect.

“This week, detectives became aware that the victim was filing a civil complaint against the owners of the property,” Adamson wrote.

Adamson and Martinez asked anyone with information about the case to call 954-828-5510 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 to remain anonymous.

Editor’s note: The Fort Lauderdale Police Department on Thursday corrected its prior report to Local 10 News, which included an incorrect address for the location where the alleged crime occurred. This article has been updated to reflect that correction.
