FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A man drowned off Fort Lauderdale Beach Saturday morning, police said.

According to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, officers were called to the 200 block of South Fort Lauderdale Beach Boulevard just before 7 a.m. after receiving a call from a man who said he lost his friend in the water.
FLPD’s Marine Unit responded and “quickly” located the unresponsive man, police spokesperson Casey Liening said.
The swimmer was taken to Broward Health Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Liening said the man’s death was likely accidental and said the drowning happened before Ocean Rescue crews came on duty.
Authorities haven’t released the man’s name as of late Saturday morning.
