Travis Lamott Malone was taken into custody Tuesday after officers with the Miami Police Department said they spotted him riding a bicycle that matched the description of one stolen during an armed robbery that was reported on Sunday.

The victim told police he was riding his bicycle near the intersection of Northwest First Court and Northwest 12th Street after leaving a nearby corner store when Malone called out to him.

The victim said he thought Malone was going to ask a question, so he turned around and rode up to him, according to an arrest report.

Police said Malone then asked the victim, “Why are you looking at my mom that way?” before pulling a black Glock from a small black satchel and demanding the bicycle.

The report stated that the victim told police that he handed over the bike after “fearing for his life.” He began walking back toward the store and continued heading south on Northwest First Place.

Shortly after, the victim said Malone approached him again while he was on the phone and asked, “Who are you talking to on the phone?” police wrote.

Authorities said the victim replied that he was talking to his mother. The suspect then fled west on Northwest 11th Street.

The victim kept walking and contacted Miami police near Northwest 10th Street.

Around 4:25 p.m. Tuesday, police said they spotted Malone in the same area where the robbery was reported.

They said he was riding a bicycle that matched the one taken during the robbery and was wearing a small black satchel.

Police confirmed that they arrested Malone on an unrelated charge and recovered a black BB gun from the bag.

Investigators said they later showed the victim a photo lineup, and he identified Malone as the person who robbed him.

Malone was taken to MPD’s robbery office for questioning.

After waiving his Miranda rights, police said Malone admitted to being in the area at the time of the incident but denied committing the robbery.

Jail records show Malone is facing one count of armed robbery with a deadly weapon.

He was also wanted on an outstanding warrant in a separate case involving charges of petty theft and resisting an officer without violence, records show.

As of Wednesday, Malone was being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
