Jail records show Shem Sherrod was arrested Wednesday on charges of second-degree murder and aggravated battery.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Sherrod is responsible for the murder of Christopher A. Patterson, 41, whose body was found on the morning of Nov. 1, 2024, floating in a canal near the 4500 block of Southwest 43rd Terrace in Dania Beach.

BSO’s Dania Beach District deputies and BSO’s Dive Team responded to the scene and recovered Patterson’s body from the water.

After identifying the body, BSO homicide detectives continued working the case and following up on various leads.

“Through investigative means, detectives identified Sherrod as the suspect,” BSO spokeswoman Claudinne Caro said in a news release. “Detectives say the homicide occurred near a body of water under a bridge at 4501 S. State Road 7 in Davie.”

A motive for the killing has not been released and detectives have not publicly disclosed how Patterson was killed.

As of Friday afternoon, Sherrod remained held at the Broward County Main Jail without bond.
