Deputies responded just before 1 p.m. Tuesday to reports of injuries near the 4000 block of Wimbledon Drive.

Investigators said the man had entered the fenced-in yard of one home but fled after realizing it was occupied. They said he then entered the fenced patio of a second home, where he encountered the resident.

That’s when the homeowner armed himself with a machete and a confrontation followed, deputies said. They said both the homeowner and the intruder were injured during the tussle.

Authorities said the man attempted to flee the scene but he was quickly found and taken into custody by responding deputies, according to authorities.

They said medics treated him at the scene, while the homeowner was transported by Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue to a nearby hospital.

No other details about the shooting were immediately released.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact BSO’s Cooper City District at 954-435-2000.
