MIAMI – A man suspected of shooting and critically wounding his mother-in-law in Miami Gardens Monday appeared in front of a judge Wednesday, one day after his capture at a gas station in the city.
Bilal Ismail, 49, of Hialeah, is facing an attempted murder charge in connection with the shooting in the 4400 block of Northwest 203rd Terrace.
In court Wednesday, the woman’s daughter, who said she was married to Ismail for nine years, testified that Ismail “hated” her mother and had been stalking her for a month, even installing a GPS tracker on her car.
As of Wednesday, she was in critical condition and recovering at HCA Florida Aventura Hospital.
The woman’s daughter testified she was conscious and alert but was unable to speak and had a long road to recovery after being shot in the head. The bullet traveled through her throat and into her abdomen.
Judge Mindy Glazer found probable cause to charge Ismail with attempted murder and ordered that he remain held without bond.
He’s set to face a judge again on Thursday.
