MIAMI SPRINGS, Fla. – A Facebook Marketplace deal turned violent when a suspect snatched a $5,000 14 karat gold Cuban link bracelet from the victim’s hand in Miami Springs, according to police.
Authorities said the suspect is just 17 years old.
The incident was captured on camera, showing the suspect fleeing in a car as the victim’s son chases him.
“This could have been a deadly consequence over a piece of jewelry,” Miami Springs Police Department Chief Matthew Castillo said.
Authorities said they identified the suspect as Jashad Lee Hymes and arrested him in Palm Beach County.
Castillo said detectives were able to get the tag on the getaway vehicle and track it north.
Police advised against meeting strangers for transactions outside the home and recommended using public places or police stations for safety.
Castillo said they suspect that Hymes has committed this crime before and he’s currently under investigation in other areas.
