BSO: Deputies fatally shoot woman with knives in Deerfield Beach

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. – An investigation is ongoing after a fatal police shooting occurred on Monday.

It happened just before 7 p.m. outside a Walgreens along South Federal Highway and Southeast Tenth Street in Deerfield Beach.

According to authorities, deputies responded to reports of a “suspicious person” who was armed with several large knives.

Upon arrival, deputies said they made contact with a woman who had multiple knives, and at some point, shots were fired.

A Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue crew responded and pronounced the woman deceased at the scene.

Authorities have yet to identify the woman or provide any information on the circumstances that led to the gunfire.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating, as is customary with police shootings.

Additionally, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said its Internal Affairs Unit would also investigate.
