Iguana invasion at Cape Coral abandoned building is like ‘scene from Jurassic Park’

CAPE CORAL, Fla. – Karin Colley, who lives in Cape Coral, said that when she walks outside with her dogs sometimes iguanas just scurry by “like a scene from Jurassic Park, where all the dinosaurs are running.”

Colley said dozens of green iguanas invaded the ruins of a neighboring abandoned building near the busy intersection of Cape Coral Parkway East and Del Prado Boulevard.

Even tourists visit the former bank building to take pictures of the reptiles despite the structural issues. Colley is among the residents who fear someone could get hurt.

“We’ve been raising the alarm for a while now,” Colley said. “This is not just a nuisance anymore. It’s dangerous.”
