According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, Samuel Eugene Boyd was taken into custody by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department in connection with the case.

Deputies said Boyd is accused of fatally shooting 18-year-old Flavio Alejandro Morales during an altercation at the park, located at 14150 SW 264th St., on April 7.

They said Morales had been playing basketball when he got into a argument with Boyd. According to investigators, the confrontation escalated quickly before it led to gunfire.

“The altercation escalated when the subject produced a firearm and shot the victim and then fled in an unknown direction,” MDSO said in a statement a day after the shooting.

Morales was taken to a nearby hospital, where deputies confirmed that he later died from his injuries.

Anyone with further information is urged to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.

Boyd’s mugshot or charges weren’t available as of Friday evening.
