Driver pulled from water after vehicle plunges into Fort Lauderdale’s New River

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A man was pulled from a submerged vehicle in Fort Lauderdale’s New River early Monday morning after a crash near the Southwest Fourth Avenue/Avenue of the Arts drawbridge, authorities confirmed.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue said crews were dispatched at approximately 2:13 a.m. after a 911 caller reported seeing a vehicle floating in the river.

When firefighters arrived, they could not immediately spot the vehicle and deployed divers into the water.

Shortly after, authorities said divers found a man inside the submerged car, brought him to the surface and rushed him to Broward Health Medical Center. They said CPR was performed during transport.

The man’s age or current condition was not immediately available.

Authorities said that the Fort Lauderdale Police Department is investigating the incident.
