HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Newly-released video shows a deadly September 2024 crash in Hollywood that led to the late-April arrest of the man police said was responsible.
Paul Anthony Negrin, 32, of Miramar, faces several felony charges after an arrest report states he was drunk and had cocaine and marijuana in his system when he ran a red light at “more than double” the speed limit at Sheridan Street and State Road 7.
The crash happened just before 4:20 a.m. on Sept. 1.
“Don’t let us die,” victim Patricia Darville told Local 10 News she was saying after the crash.
Darville was left a paraplegic, while the man she called her “best friend,” Kendall Russell, was killed. Another friend, Rose Stewart, was also hurt.
“I cry about it a lot, and I still talk to Ken,” Darville said. “I tell Ken, ‘I’m sorry. You know, just sorry that happened.’”
Negrin was driving a 2018 Lexus GX460 at 83 mph on Sheridan Street less than two seconds before he ran a red light and T-boned the trio in a Toyota Camry as they headed south, according to police.
Authorities said his blood alcohol level tested at an “extremely high” .233%, nearly three times the legal limit. They said he also had cocaine and marijuana in his system.
Police said officers asked him where he was after the crash, and he told them he thought he was at Miramar Parkway and University Drive, more than six miles away.
“Why do you think God kept you here?” Local 10 News reporter Rosh Lowe asked.
“Because I have a testimony. I have a testimony to tell. Let me tell you, in that car, after the accident, was a living hell,” Darville said. “Just being in that car, I don’t even want to think about it. I don’t want to think about it.”
Records show Negrin has pleaded not guilty in the case and he remained in the Broward Main Jail as of Thursday, held without bond.
