Massive tree comes down during windy rainstorm in South Miami

Flood advisory for Miami-Dade County has been lifted

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A flood advisory was issued for parts of South Florida on Sunday as heavy rain and wind impacted the area.

In South Miami, a massive tree came down, badly damaging a car caught underneath.

It was located in the area of Southwest 74th Street and 63rd Avenue.

ā€œI was inside and suddenly I heard this whoosh,ā€ said resident Connie Stieger. ā€œThis very, very loud noise like a train coming through.ā€

She’s grateful the tree fell away from her home.

ā€œI’m counting my blessings,ā€ she said. ā€œDefinitely counting my blessings.ā€

Stieger says she was shocked by how much power today’s storms had.

ā€œI never thought it was this tree and when I saw it through my front window, I could not believe it,ā€ she said. ā€œI’ve lived here forty years and it’s been through hurricanes. I never believed this would happen.ā€

Miami-Dade County remained under a flood advisory until 6 p.m.

Officials warned that areas prone to flooding should brace for rising waters during the afternoon rain.

Areas throughout South Florida, from Cutler Bay to Boca Raton, experienced extreme rain, and in some areas, hail, on Sunday.
