Video shows woman whispering to herself after fatal DUI crash in Broward

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Investigators said Latoya Hayes was speeding while driving drunk without a license on Interstate 95 when she killed a 28-year-old man working as a road ranger.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said Hayes was driving between 80 to 100 mph near Hollywood Boulevard when she struck and killed Jose Parra on New Year’s Day.

He was 28 and a newlywed.

Investigators also accused Hayes, of Hollywood, of injuring two FHP troopers. Parra’s truck suffered damage.

A video shows that when an FHP trooper was driving Hayes home after the tragedy she was whispering to herself, “So close to home.”

A little more than 3 hours later, Hayes’s blood-alcohol level was .67 -- more than twice the legal limit. She is facing more than 20 charges and remained in jail Saturday without bond.
