Aliomar Acosta-Perez was taken into custody on Friday in connection with a stabbing that occurred on April 24 in the 900 block of Normandy Drive, according to an arrest report from the Miami Beach Police Department obtained by Local 10 News on Monday.
Police said the victim was hospitalized with a four-inch laceration on the right side of her neck and remains intubated following surgery, police said.
They said officers were flagged down around 2:45 p.m. by a witness who told them that a woman had been stabbed nearby.
Miami Beach police and the city’s fire rescue personnel responded and found the victim in critical condition, according to an arrest report.
Authorities said surveillance video from OhhScooters at 960 Normandy Drive showed Acosta-Perez wearing a white shirt, blue jeans, and red shoes while standing at a bus stop.
Moments later, police said he was seen lunging at the victim with a sharp object, and began to “make multiple stabbing motions toward her.”
Authorities said the victim tried to run but was pushed to the ground and stabbed again.
Bystanders intervened shortly after, pulling Acosta-Perez off the victim and striking him, the report stated.
Investigators said Acosta-Perez fled east in the direction of Sabor Tropical Supermarket after the alleged stabbing occurred.
Detectives said they linked a black 2022 Toyota Corolla that was seen leaving the area to Acosta-Perez through a rental agreement he had with EAN Holdings, LLC.
They said he had used a Nevada driver’s license to rent the vehicle.
During the investigation, the suspect and victim’s son told police that his mother called him after the stabbing, saying, “Go home and take care of your sister, your dad just cut me,” according to the report.
The victim’s son positively identified Acosta-Perez from a photograph and disclosed prior domestic violence between his parents when they both were living in Nevada, according to investigators.
Authorities said the victim had moved to Miami Beach with her children to get away from Acosta-Perez after a previous altercation.
They said he was taken into custody on Friday and was considered a flight risk due to his ties to Las Vegas.
Jail records show Acosta-Perez is facing one count of premeditated attempted murder with a deadly weapon.
As of Monday, he remains on an immigration hold and is being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Authorities have not disclosed motive for the stabbing.
