HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – A 17-year-old is facing multiple adult charges after authorities say he was driving as fast as 126 mph just seconds before crashing into a minivan in Hollywood, splitting it in half and leaving a 72-year-old passenger partially paralyzed.
Authorities said Danylo Motlokov was driving a BMW westbound near the 2500 block of Sheridan Street in Hollywood when he made a left turn approaching North 26th Avenue and struck the rear right side of a 2014 white Toyota Sienna minivan on Jan. 12.
According to authorities, body camera footage showed Motlokov standing near the passenger side of the wrecked BMW, checking on his passenger, who had life-threatening injuries after the crash occurred.
They said the impact of the crash was so severe that it split the other vehicle — a 2014 white Toyota Sienna minivan — in half.
“The rear axle, third row of seats, and the rear portion of the van were violently ripped off and then thrown approximately 70 feet into the southeast corner property,” investigators wrote in Motlokov’s arrest report.
Authorities said the crash left a 72-year-old female passenger of the Toyota with critical injuries, including a cervical fracture, liver damage, brain bleed, and multiple rib fractures.
They said that the passenger is now partially paralyzed but still has “limited use of some of her limbs” and is living in an assisted living facility.
Police also confirmed that the driver of the Toyota suffered a small leg fracture and experienced side pain before he and Motlokov were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital by Hollywood Fire Rescue."
According to investigators, data from the BMW’s black box showed the car was traveling between 100 and 126 mph just seconds before the crash — in a zone with a 40 mph speed limit.
Motlokov initially told officers that he was going 60 mph at the time of the crash, the report stated.
Investigators also noted that his driver’s license had been suspended before the collision due to a previous traffic violation.
Police also said they reviewed Motlokov’s social media posts, which appeared to show him driving up to 200 mph in a car similar to the one involved in the crash.
Jail records show that Motlokov, a Russian national, faces five charges, including four counts of reckless driving and driving with a suspended or canceled license. He posted a bond of $165,000.
A judge also ordered that Motlokov be prohibited from driving, placed on Level 1 GPS-monitored pretrial release, and required to surrender his passport.
