Man charged with killing ex-husband’s dog in Wilton Manors

WILTON MANORS, Fla. – Walter Gardner recalls coming home to a nightmare.

Broken televisions, feces on the walls and ceiling, destroyed furniture, and his beloved toy poodle Tucker, dead.

The dog was found bloated and surrounded by stuffed animals on his bed.

Police said it was the work of Gardner’s ex-husband, 35-year-old Warren Johnson.

Johnson faced a judge Monday.

The incident happened on September 10 of last year at Gardner’s home in Wilton Manors.

He said Johnson was acting erratically and using drugs.

“He started smashing stuff in the house,” said Gardner. “I had the Wilton Manors police here. They said to get a restraining order.”

But when Gardner returned from the courthouse, Tucker was nowhere to be found.

His canine sister Tiffany knew something wasn’t right.

“She kept running into the bedroom and crying,” said Gardner. “I saw something white on the bed. He was upside down and he was gone.”

According to the police report, the dog, “suffered acute hemorrhage from trauma” and “died from blunt force to the abdomen causing his lung to collapse and internal bleeding to the chest.”
