Surveillance video shows vandal appearing to use acid to target family’s cars in Allapattah

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A disturbing act of vandalism was caught on surveillance video early Saturday morning in Miami-Dade County’s Allapattah neighborhood, where a man on a scooter was seen tossing what appeared to be acid onto a family’s cars — twice.

A man was caught on camera around 3 a.m. walking up to a property with a scooter and throwing an unknown liquid over a fence onto a car.

Minutes later, he returned — cup in hand — and did it again.

The victim, who asked not to be identified for the safety of his family, said the substance immediately sizzled on the concrete driveway and left visible damage to both his Tesla and his wife’s Volkswagen.

“Someone that throws acid in someone’s house what can they do to you?” the victim asked Local 10’s Andrew Perez. “I just thought about my little girl, my daughter.”

His concern grew deeper when he connected the object used in the crime to something more personal.

“We have no enemies … nothing. I do have a legal court case regarding custody with my daughter … it just so happened that the cup is a little girl’s cup so that’s very bone-chilling,” he said. “I’m just worried about our safety, my daughter’s safety.”

Despite the crime scene unit arriving to collect evidence and photograph the damage, the victim said the cup was left behind. The substance inside it has not been officially identified, but he believes it was acid.

“It caused significant damage. Her car needs to be repainted,” he said. The victim also noted that his Tesla sustained damage, despite its protective paint coating.

He suspects the attack was planned and possibly involved more than one person.

He’s now pleading for information and hoping the person responsible is found before the situation gets worse.

“It’s just something well thought out, passionate. Somebody that really put a lot of thought into this,” he said. “Today, they damage the car, and tomorrow, they can harm one of us … so you never know.”

Miami-Dade deputies said the incident is being investigated. Anyone with information is urged to come forward or call Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
