Police continue search for suspect following fatal shooting near Lauderhill church

LAUDERHILL, Fla. – The search for a killer continues for the Lauderhill Police Department after an early morning shooting on Sunday.

“It’s the taking of an innocent life that people ain’t got no type of remorse for people,” said Bobby, a witness to the shooting.

5 p.m. report:

Newly released surveillance video shows a woman on the phone behind a moving truck near the scene as police arrive. People ducked for cover behind the truck when the shots rang out, according to witnesses.

Police said 41-Year-Old Erika Williams and another woman were shot in the parking lot in front of a church located along the 1700 block of Northwest 38th Avenue.

Williams died at the scene and the other woman was rushed to the hospital.

Witnesses say they heard dozens of shots being fired.

“It was complete rapid like just straight someone held their hand on the trigger and it just went,” said Bobby.

Detectives spent most of Sunday morning going over the scene, collecting evidence to try to figure out what led to the violence, but they say there’s still no motive.

“You never know when something’s going to take place,” said Bobby. ”That’s what I’m scared of.”

Authorities said the second woman who was injured has been released from the hospital.

Police have not said if they are seeking any suspects or persons of interest.
