SWEETWATER, Fla. – One day after hundreds of residents defied an order to vacate their trailers at the Li’l Abner Mobile Home Park in Sweetwater, a fire broke out in one of the once-sprawling park’s remaining mobile homes.
The fire broke out at around 11:15 Tuesday night in the 11200 block of Northwest First Terrace.
A neighbor told Local 10 News that he saw the flames while he was in his own mobile home and he quickly ran over, with some residents still in their trailers, to warn whoever may have been inside to get out of their home.
He said he feared for some of the women and some of the children who live nearby and wanted to make sure that they were safe.
That neighbor, Berniabe Riuadenina, said he questions how the fire could have happened amid the ongoing dispute at the park, saying the trailer has no water or power.
“This is an unknown that has everyone upset, uncomfortable nervous because fires have already happened,” he said. “I wouldn’t say it was an accident. I’m sure it wasn’t an accident.”
Firefighters said there were no reported injuries.
They said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
