The fire broke out just before 6:15 p.m. at 1219 NW Second St., about two blocks away from loanDepot Park.
Lt. Pete Sanchez, an MFR spokesperson, said crews arrived, located the fire in a unit and got the seniors out of a neighboring apartment, which was filled with “heavy smoke.”
They were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, he said. All of the other units were cleared and confirmed safe.
“The fire was brought under control within ten minutes and was contained to the unit of origin,“ Sanchez said. ”However, water damage affected two units located directly below the fire-damaged apartment.”
The fire displaced 10 residents, including three children, and a dog. The American Red Cross is assisting eight who sought help, Sanchez said.
Investigators were working Friday evening to determine the cause of the blaze, he said.
