Video shows man cops say inserted self into South Beach street fight, stabbed victim breaking it up

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Chaos erupted on Miami Beach Thursday night along Ninth Street, just off Collins Avenue and video shows a man joining a fight and stabbing someone.

The victim, according to police, was trying to break up the street fight when 48-year-old Derrick Madison, who wasn’t originally involved, inserted himself in and became an instigator, ultimately stabbing the victim, who was bleeding from his chest.

Madison, who is homeless, is said to have an extensive criminal history.

“Although things have improved in the Miami Beach entertainment district, what happened last night was frustrating,” Mitch Novick, a longtime South Beach business owner and activist, said.

The violent, frustrating fight was all caught on Novick’s surveillance camera at the Sherbrooke Hotel.

Madison was eventually arrested and charged with attempted murder and cannabis possession.

He was ordered held without bond and is scheduled to be back in court on Tuesday.

The victim is now recovering from a puncture to his left lung and a stab wound.
