Police: Search continues after gunfight injures 2, pursuit ends with armed carjacker’s arrest

MIRAMAR, Fla. – Detectives arrested an armed 19-year-old suspect and they were searching for two others on Sunday after a chaotic gunfight injuring two and an armed carjacking terrorized a neighborhood in Miramar.

According to the Miramar Police Department, the two bystanders who were shot were not involved in the dangerous shooting on Saturday near Miramar Parkway and Southwest 122 Avenue.

“I picked up my son fast and started running ... seeing the bullets go past me,” said Felipe Larramende who was with his 18-month-old son in the area of the Epic and Vibe apartments and whose damage reached the kitchen where his mother could have been shot.

According to a police arrest report, after the shooting, Kelton Reed pointed a Micro Draco 7.62 pistol at a woman nearby and threatened to kill her.

“It’s very scary,” said Jannea Wolff, who lives in the area where bullets damaged windows, walls, lights, and even trees and artwork.

Reed, 19, ordered her to get out of her red 2019 Ford Mustang and stole it at 2:50 p.m., Saturday, outside of a nearby Aldi supermarket, according to police.

Janice Mclntosh, a spokeswoman for the police department, reported there was “a brief” police pursuit before Reed’s arrest.

“That suspect bailed from the vehicle and was apprehended,” McIntosh said on Saturday.

Doctors released one of the bystanders shot on Saturday night and the other was in stable condition on Sunday morning, police said.

Broward County Sheriff’s Office inmate records on Sunday showed correctional deputies booked Reed at the main jail in Fort Lauderdale.

Reed faced charges of carjacking with a firearm or weapon, aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony, and resisting arrest. The carjacking charge is a nonbondable offense. His bond for the other two charges was $6,000.
