According to BSO spokesman Carey Codd, deputies responded to a report about a disturbance involving a weapon at 4017 SW 26th St. at 12:22 p.m. Sunday and encountered Joshua Gullatt at the scene, who punched a deputy in the face, causing the deputy to fall to the ground.
Codd said a second deputy tried to stun Gullatt with a Taser, but was unsuccessful.
According to Codd, Gullatt then struck the second deputy before running into a bedroom at the home and “arming himself with a deadly weapon.”
“Due to the ongoing threat, one of the deputies fired their weapon at Gullatt, striking him,” Codd said in a news release.
According to Codd, deputies provided medical aid to Gullatt until paramedics arrived and transported him to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The deputy who was punched was also was taken to the hospital and has since been released.
“The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the circumstances of the deputy-involved shooting,” Codd said. “BSO’s Homicide and Crime Scene units are investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting, and BSO’s Internal Affairs Unit is conducting an administrative review of the incident. The deputy who fired his weapon is on administrative assignment pending the investigation.”
As of Monday, Gullatt was still hospitalized.
