Documents from the Broward Sheriff’s Office show a probationary deputy, identified as Stephen Tapia, has been fired, effective May 30.

Six other deputies and one sergeant have now been put on administrative leave without pay, including Brittney King, Dia Cross, Daimeon Nelson, Eric Baide, Eric Klisiak, Lemar Blackwood and Travis Allen, bringing the total number of suspended personal to 16.

The reasons listed on many of the documents site breach of confidence and neglect of duties.

Last month, Local 10 reported on the firing of former Capt. Jeremiah Cooper, who was terminated on May 9.

“The reason given on the termination form is failure to meet probationary standards,” BSO spokeswoman Veda Coleman-Wright wrote in a news release.

Deputy Daniel Lovallo remains on administrative leave with pay and Lt. Michael Paparella has been permitted to return to work.

Nathan Gingles was arrested for three murders on Feb. 16 in Tamarac. The victims included his 34-year-old estranged wife, Mary Gingles; his 64-year-old father-in-law David Ponzer; and Andrew Ferrin, a 36-year-old neighbor. He was also accused of kidnapping his 4-year-old daughter, Seraphine.

“We had a chance to save their loved one’s life and we failed,” Broward County Sheriff Gregory Tony said earlier this year, adding that Nathan Gingles could have been arrested in December and was not.

Court records showed Mary Gingles filed multiple restraining orders against her estranged husband, including less than three months before the tragedy where it was uncovered Nathan Gingles was still in possession of his weapons.

Tony said some of his deputies failed to act on warning signs leading up to the triple murder, saying it was his deputies who dropped the ball in their response.

State prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Nathan Gingles. Jail records show he is facing three murder charges, as well as charges of kidnapping and child abuse.
