MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – New details revel more on Miami-Dade County’s agreement to house federal immigration detainees at the county jail.
County commissioners will consider whether to give ICE full control of its inmates’ records, which, immigrant advocates fear, will make it impossible for family, attorneys or the public to know what happens to them.
“As people may or may not know, we have sunshine laws here in this state, and you can request info through that or FOIA,” said State Rep. Dotie Joseph said Sunday on “This Week in South Florida”. “But this restricts the county’s ability to respond to those requests, so that’s a super problematic portion of the agreement that we’re looking at.”
Another part of the agreement is the cost. The county would only receive $50 dollars to house a migrant for two days. The actual cost to the county is much higher.
