Police officers arrest 19-year-old man over fatal fiery crash on Mother’s Day in Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Police officers arrested a 19-year-old man on Friday accusing him of causing a fiery crash that killed a man last month in Hollywood.

According to Deanna Bettineschi, a spokeswoman for the Hollywood Police Department, detectives identified the driver at fault as Gerson Alette Jr.

According to the police arrest report, Alette, of North Miami Beach, crashed his 2013 white Chrysler 300, into a gray 2022 BMW 8 Series on Mother’s Day.

Police officers reported finding the BMW engulfed in flames at about 5:40 p.m., on May 11 at Sheridan Street and North 40 Avenue, records show.

Hollywood fire rescue personnel extinguished the fire, found a man inside, and pronounced him dead. Fire rescue personnel took Alette to the hospital.

Police officers reported Alette wasn’t wearing his seatbelt and said he was in a rush to get to work at the very busy Longhorn Steakhouse at the Sheridan Plaza, according to the arrest report.

Inmate records show correctional deputies were holding Alette at the Broward County Main Jail on Friday night in Fort Lauderdale.

Records show Alette faced charges of vehicular homicide, disobeying a red light, six counts of reckless driving causing property damage, and two counts of unlawful speeding.
