MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Florida Forest Service and Miami-Dade firefighters faced what was left of a wildfire Sunday in the Shark Valley area.
On Saturday, when the fire started, Florida Highway Patrol troopers closed an area of Krome Avenue from US-27 to Tamiami Trail.
The heavy smoke was visible from the Miccosukee Casino & Resort, at 500 SW 177 Ave., when the brush fire spread on Saturday afternoon.
Although most of the fire had been contained on Sunday, the firefighters continued to use a helicopter to deliver water to hotspots.
The smoke also affected the air quality in southwestern Miami-Dade County, so firefighters asked people who are vulnerable to respiratory issues to stay indoors.
This is a developing story.
