FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – It’s been one month since 19-year-old Myrah Zeigler was shot and killed in Fort Lauderdale.
One month and no arrests have been made.
Through tears, her heartbroken mother said she believes someone knows who murdered her child, and she’s demanding answers and justice.
“‘I’m sorry, she did not make it.’ For a mother to hear that, that bothers me every day because that’s all I hear,” said Alicia Ford-Barron, Zeigler’s mother.
She, along with Zeigler’s grandma and aunt, want to know the truth behind her murder.
“This is not going to be a cold case,” said Patty Christian-McFadden, Zeigler’s grandmother. “We are not going away.”
It was on the morning of May 19 when Zeigler was at an Airbnb along Southwest 16th Street and Eighth Avenue with her best friend and some acquaintances. Ford-Barron says her daughter called her on Facetime and told her a group of girls came by the house stirring up some trouble.
“They maced her, they snatched off her wig, they took their belongings,” said Ford-Barron.
Police said there was a physical altercation.
“In between me talking to her, the phone was ringing,” said Ford-Barron. “The young lady was asking her to come to the park, telling them they can get their items.”
That park is just down the street from the rental.
Zeigler went to get her belongings and that’s when her mom says shots rang out.
Detectives say a man pulled the trigger.
Zeigler was found injured in the street and rushed to Broward Health Medical Center, where she died.
Now her heartbroken family is demanding answers, especially from witnesses.
“They have not done anything but stay silent,” said Ford-Barron.
Added Christian-McFadden: “Those girls, they are accessories. They lured her out there. They need to be behind bars, even if they are not the shooter.”
Zeigler was buried last week, her death leaving behind a huge void and numerous broken hearts.
“My heart aches, all day, all day long and I just want justice, I just want the truth,” said Ford-Barron.
The family says police were at the scene before the shooting due to the altercation and hey want to know why Zeigler was allowed to go to the park without a police escort.
Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
