Elderly woman found alone and injured, family fears hit-and-run crash

MIAMI – Family members are searching for answers after a loved one was found injured.

Currently, 78-year-old Janet Bowen is fighting for her life at Jackson South Medical Center.

Pictures from the hospital show she has extensive injuries, including a severe brain bleed.

Her family is trying to figure out what exactly happened to her.

They say someone saw her laying on the ground near her home, which is located near Southwest 147th Avenue and 174th Street, and called 911 Friday morning .

The family believes she was hit by a car that left her.

“She left her house and she walked to Publix and then she was on her way back from Publix when she got hit,” said Jillian Thomas, Bowen’s niece.

Thomas said family found groceries and Bowen’s missing shoe in the grass.

Thomas is devastated, she says Bowen is a God fearing woman who loves to travel and is giving and kind.

“She’s always with the family,” she said. “We love our aunt to death. She’s very close. Our family is extremely close.”

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said detectives are trying to determine if there was an accident or a hit and run.

Bowen’s family says someone had to have seen something since this happened in the morning along a busy road.

They are urging anyone with even a small bit of information to come forward.
